Are acrylic false nails any good? How long would they usually last?

I have been wearing my acrylic nails for almost 5 years with only a short break to do some decorating. You can wear them indefinately, as your nails do not need to breathe, they do not have lungs %26amp; they are 'dead' keratin once they have come out from under the eponychium (cuticle area).

They do not damage your nails, it's the in-experienced nail tech using electric drills or abrasives that are way too harsh that does the damage. Also, if you pick them, bite them off, they will damage your nails - and that would be you not the acrylic nails doing the damage.

You need to be sure if you are going to get them done, to choose a reputable nail salon which uses good quality products such as Creative Nail Design, EzFlow or NSI to name but a few.

Also you must ensure that they don't drill you with the electric file, so chose a salon that uses only hand files.

Also, make sure they are qualified, have insurance %26amp; practise good hygiene methods.

These should be no problem if you chose a quality salon.

Acrylic nails, or any other nail enhancements, should be maintained every 2 - 4 weeks. They DO NEED oiling with a good quality cuticle oil, this helps to PREVENT lifting by keeping the acrylic flexible %26amp; keeping the natural nail underneath hydrated.

Poor preparation and bad application techniques cause lifting, the nails should not automatically lift. If they start to after only a few days - go back to the salon %26amp; complain.

Acrylic nails do tend to be more durable than other types of nail enhancements.

Don't have them too long to start with either, as you'll never manage lol!

They can look fabulous and make you feel great. Go for it.

I happen to think they are very fun to wear. If you are looking forward to wearing them for a day, (or less) you should buy the nail packet that has the glue pads on the back of them. If you would want to wear them for multiple days, buy the packet that has a glue bottle inserted in the packet. The glue keeps the false nail on your finger for very long.

Nomatter what false nails you choose, you have to be gentle with grabbing things-- they can also break on you.

Good Luck!

They will usually last until they grow out, but the part by the cuticle tends to separate first. It's called lifting. The key to keeping them is to keep your nails dry and not use oils and lotions, which cause lifting. The downfall is for some that improperly cared for acrylic nails can lead to nail fungus. That is another reason it is so important to keep your nails clean and dry as possible. On an average you will have to go in every week to 2 weeks to have them filled in.
personally, i don't think they are good, they dehydrate your nails and can dammage them for life, and they don't last that long, maybe 2 weeks. but by then you see your nail growing from the root again and the acrylic nail will end up half way down the finger tip :P i personally think they usually look tacky too. some can be nice though.

i have also heard of a new type of fake nail, which doesn't damage you real nail, i think its made of some sort of rubber or something... but its supposed to be better, and have the same look. :) try look for it, or ask a beauty therapist.

The answer here they will last for how long you want them to!

The nails are continously growing and renewing themselves.

They will not damage you nails they will damage the nail that is there already as it will be dehydrated and covered also the top layer will be filed away but as ive said they are continously growing and soon as that nail grows out what the acrylic has been attached to will be fine.

The initial 1st set will probably last about 3 weeks b4 they get top heavy and start snapping usually just the white part will break clean off straight off leaving the part over the nail which you should leave any sort of picking or pullingwill leave the nail sore.

you will need to infill then which is the apart that has grown around the cuticle the gap where they just apply a small amount file them down and back into shape every 2-3 weeks.

backfills is where the white is drilled or filed depending where you go you will see a shadow appearing just above the white this is your own nail showing through the white is then applied again further down to cover this and they will be infilled also this is done every 2-3weeks.

Some people had infills then the next app they will have backfills then infills and so on or they will just have backfills everytime to keep them nice and white.

They look nice and if done correct they look great if not applied right they wil lift and that isnt appealing.

Have a shop around word of mouth is better than any advertisment.

They do look good once you have had them done.

Depends what you mean by how long do they last .... i know its not the most helpful bit of information but it really does depend on how long it takes for your nails to grow.

mine grow quite quickly ....

I had to get infills every 2 and a bit weeks or they would lift.

but the majority of people get them done every 3 - 4 weeks!

they are expensive but they do look lovely for about a week and a half!

hope this helps .... sort of .... you just have to try for yourself!
i use them alot, and i think they are very good.mine last me around 6 weeks.hope this helps you.
The glue that is used to put those nails on is very bad for your nails. When you take the tips off, your nails will be very thin and weak. They have to be maintained every 2 weeks if you want to keep them for any length of time
